What is best barrel length for 9mm?
If you shoot subsonics suppressed a 4.5″ barrel gets close to the 1050fps upper limit and is nice and compact with the added length of the suppressor.
Otherwise the velocity gain starts to flatten out at 8-10″ which is still handy and light.
10-12″ is about optimal for most uses in my opinion..

Most cop guns have heavy holster wear, but I’d venture to guess most have less than 5,000 rounds. I have 30,000+ through my G17 and another 10,000 through my G34 (stopped shooting the 17 when I got the 34).

Almost any handgun is designed to withstand the wear and tear of firing rounds.

How long does a pistol barrel last?
Any quality pistol barrel should easily last tens of thousands of rounds without any noticeable affects. Military sidearms have been known to last tens of thousands of rounds and I’ve known competition shooters who will put 100k rounds through a pistol in just a few years.
When should I replace my pistol barrel?
The Barrel After about 50,000 rounds, the rifling will be worn down and that causes a dip in performance. If you’re not shooting past 25 yards, you may never notice the decrease in accuracy, but it’s still a good idea to replace the barrel to extend the overall lifespan of the gun.

222 Remington size you could expect an accurate barrel life of 3000-4000 rounds. And varmint-type accuracy should be quite a bit longer than this. For medium-size cartridges, such as the . 308 Winchester, 7×57 and even the 25-06, 2000-3000 rounds of accurate life is reasonable.
Do heavy barrels last longer?
Re: Does a heavy barrel last longer than a sporter barrel Basically No . just because the external profile is thicker than another barrel will not change what is going on inside the bore to any great degree , where the wear takes place. Less heating up might give some extra life but it would be hard to measure.

There is no real difference in the accurcy of the barrels. A heavy barrel makes for a heavier gun. Most people find than they hold a heavier gun more steady, especially when shooting off a bench. As barrels heat up they move around and become less accurate.
